Colour shapes, and why they start off

Matching runs on colour first. A stable shape can back every colour up, and it stays switched off until you want it.

What the setting does

Turn it on and every matching colour carries its own shape — a circle, square, triangle, star, diamond, bar or spark. Passengers and the target badges on the buses use the same mapping, so a shape always means the same colour.

The shapes are stable: they never shuffle between levels, and they are drawn alongside the colour rather than replacing it.

Why it is off to begin with

The board is built to be read at a glance, and colour does that job fastest for most players. Adding shapes to every tile by default would make a busy board busier, so the setting is there when you want it rather than imposed on everyone.

Selection, facing and blocked cues stay visible either way — they never depend on the setting being on.
